We are all a bit poorly here. We have contracted what is commonly know as astinkingcold.
George is over the worst and back at college. Charlie has taken it to work with him but the rest of us are at home.
We have been doing jigsaws,
eating bought biscuits and licking elderberry lollies.
And wondering if we should start drinking Ovaltine.
I've never had Ovaltine (or Horlicks), I'm more of a hot toddy girl. I was, however, able to make Katie and Tom fall about laughing with my rendition of the Ovaltiney song. I swear I sound exactly like Celia Johnson.
And Tom has just shown us his impression of a fainting goat. A sure sign that he is recovering.
I'm afraid the video isn't very good quality but it made us laugh like hyenas.
Despite all the jollity here, I am in no mood for cooking. Spaghetti and cheese is about all I can manage tonight.

Poor all of you! Hope you're feeling better soon. Mine keep threatening to succumb, but are probably storing it all up for half term.
ReplyDeleteHalf term is ages away isn't it? Please say it is.
DeleteGosh ! You must be feeling really poorly if you don't want to cook. Isn't it time for a picture of the quince tree. ME
ReplyDeleteIt looks the same as it did last January.
DeleteBeing ill sounds like great fun if your house! I have seen fainting goats before, I am not sure running around startling them with large umbrellas is kind! Is that what you did to Tom?
ReplyDeleteHa ha! No, he did the impression before showing me the video. It was nearly as good as his impression of a basking shark, that's where he lies on his stomach with his mouth open very wide. Tom is the resident clown here.
DeleteGET WELL SOON
ReplyDeleteJulie xxxxxxx
Those elderberry lollies sound perfect,I must remember to make some before the birds eat all the berries next year (maybe that's why the birdies don't get colds?) hope you all recover quickly!
ReplyDeletefeel better soon xox
ReplyDeleteI wish we had something like Lemsip here. It always sounds so comforting. As do elderberry lollipops. And our Ovaltine is plain old non-nutritious chocolate milk powder. Sigh!
ReplyDelete(Get better soon -- although the puzzle-doing and goat-watching sounds awfully fun.)
Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteI hope you and yours feel better soon. That puzzle looks amazing!
xx
Trust me, hot toddies will do you far more than good than Ovaltine. Hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteI was singing along..........:-)
ReplyDeleteI used your mincemeat sauce recipe tonight to go with ice-cream. It was truly delicious. I think I have just about finished all the leftovers now.
I hope you all get better soon.
My Mum actually was an Ovaltiney! I think she still has the badge.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Tom would get on well with my Dad ... he lies flat on the floor, face down with arms and legs stretched out (not easy at 82) and says he is zero-height skydiving!
Feel better really soon Sue & Co. x
Hope you get well very soon x My boys and I have just watched the fainting goats film FOUR times ... bizarre and very funny!
ReplyDeleteI love ovaltine and horlicks but cant remember the last time we had some. one for the shopping list I think.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Ovaltine is all it took in the 1950s to make us happy girls and boys.... pfffffff.......
ReplyDeleteNice to hear that old familiar song again, though! I loved Ovaltine in those days, but found it strangely disappointing when I tried it as an adult.
I have never seen or heard of those goats before, the children are going to love them. That clip made me laugh out loud, especially when they all went down together.
ReplyDeleteGet well soon, it sounds as though you're all on the road to recovery.
I LOVE a Horlicks! I use Ovaltine in Sticky Toffee Pudding, but not really to drink. Hope you all feel better soon. Bottlegreen's Ginger and Lemongrass cordial with hot water is a great cure-all I find!
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon. Funnily enough, I got some Horlicks in response to a strange longing for it last week - must be the season.
ReplyDeleteGet better.
ReplyDeleteThose goats have made our morning, thankyou!
Oh dear, sorry to hear about your poorliness.... however, watching those goats should be put on prescription. So funny.........
ReplyDeleteHope that you all feel better very soon. Up here in the wilds of the North they even still sell Horlicks and Ovaltine in some Cafes. Love the falling goats.
ReplyDeleteOh no!!! Sorry to hear you are not well.... The other day I had some tummy trouble and decided to have a shot of damson gin and not only was delish but it did help my tummy.... For your cold I would suggest a traditional Spanish garlic soup. The one my grannies used to cook during the wars in the winter. You fry a lot of garlic bits in olive oil but don't let them burn. Then mash the oil and garlic mixture with the mortar. You boil a full cup of water (one per person) in a pan with the garlic and olive oil, paprika, salt and pepper. You add bits of bread and you cook it for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes you can add a beaten egg to the mixture and serve and drink hot. This is not a soup I drink regularly but when I am ill, It does help me.... For a more tastier version you can also add chunks (not slices) of serrano ham (but I think this is difficult to find here). I hope you all get better. I love the jigsaw by the way.... very retro cool ! x Pati
ReplyDeleteI like the sound of garlic soup Pati, thank you.
DeleteSorry to hear that you've all been unwell, I hope recovery is fast. I have had no voice since Tuesday and my throat is so sore that it feel like I am swallowing razors. Dr won't prescribe anything so am suffering.
ReplyDeleteLove the Ovaltine advert, I can remember trying to listen to the programme on the radio when I was a child. It was on Radio Luxembourg and the signal used to fade in and out.
The fainting goats were funny, shame I couldn't hear the commentary.
Hot bath, hot toddy, hot water bottle, hot lemon & honey...& fainting goats- just what the Dr ordered I'd say!
ReplyDeleteGet well soon Sue. I second the garlic soup. Mine is different as it has lots of garlic, lots of onion and ginger in it. Definitely helps!
ReplyDeleteHeal well.
ReplyDeleteThose biscuits have me home sick for the UK!
I hope you feel better soon :) xxx
ReplyDeleteGarlic soup is a must , I agree . And spaghetti with cheese sounds very comforting , too .
ReplyDeleteGet better soon !
( and please let's see the completed crossword! )
I hope your stinking cold is drying up now and hasn't gone to your chest. Manuka honey is good for throats but frighteningly expensive. We used to drink Milo. I liked the green tin it came in but not the taste of it.
ReplyDeleteMy older sister was an Ovaltiney (much to my older brother's disgust). She would occasionally do a rendition of the song to amuse her children when they were small and we'd all fall about laughing. Happy memories, thank you. Hope the colds clear up soon.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better...
ReplyDeleteAbout five years agou I was introduced to Lemsip and since then that't the only thing I take when I have a cold :-S
